Norton Internet Security is a suite developed by Symantec and promises to give us the protection we’ve always dreamed about. The whole application has been developed to be extremely user friendly, so you should have no problem using it, regardless if we’re talking about installation or the software per se. Installing it will not necessarily require you to restart you PC. 

Everything’s organized within Norton Internet Security, so every tool is in the right place. Thanks to its powerful features, the application can keep you away from most existing threats, including viruses, hacker attacks, spyware, Trojan horses and identity thefts. In case you believe that your computer is already infected, you can easily start a scan to get back on the safe side.

The scanning process actually takes a bit longer than expected no matter the selected scan profile. Norton Internet Security needs some time to look for malware in every sector of your drive. Moreover, it comes down hard on system resources and thus draws back the responsiveness of other running applications.

Norton Internet Security is able to protect you on all fronts, including email, instant messaging, web browsing and all the other online activities. Norton Anti Virus 2013 Beta



Norton Antivirus is one of the most popular names in the antivirus market, relying on a powerful scanning system with regular definition updates and real-time protection.

Created by the developers over at Symantec, Norton Antivirus promises to be the perfect antivirus solution for every computer, as it delivers industry-leading protection against all types of infections, with a moderate footprint on hardware resources.

During our test, we were really surprised to see how easy and fast someone can install this application. Truth is, the installer doesn't look too professional though, although it's extremely efficient and takes only a few seconds after everything is dropped in the right place. 

And it doesn't ask for a computer restart, something that was mandatory in the past and allowed viruses to spread and sometimes disable antivirus protection.

The interface seems a bit too crowded and clunky and we wouldn't really expect such a main screen from an antivirus that's supposed to be a leader in its segment. The settings menu comprises tons of options, but as always, you should pay extra attention when browsing through them.

There are four scanning modes, “Reputation Scan”, “Quick Scan”, “Full System Scan” and “Custom Scan”, each with its very own configuration settings. Of course, the third one takes a lot of time and uses a moderate amount of computer resources, but it checks every single file on your machine to make sure you're on the safe side.

Norton Antivirus comprises basically everything to stay away from malicious files and online attacks, including an antivirus, antispyware, intrusion prevention, email and browser protection, but also the so-called “Download Intelligence” to check your downloads on the go.

Another interesting feature is the so-called “Facebook Scan” that automatically scans your Facebook wall to verify the published links.

Another problem we experienced during our test is related to the update process which seems to take ages when running Norton Antivirus for the first time. It depends on the Internet connection indeed, but the first update needed a lot of time to download and unpack the files.

A really good thing is the fast scanning process that's also quite friendly with computer resources. Plus, it is very efficient thanks to the virus definition updates that are delivered very often, sometimes even several times an hour.

All in all, Norton Antivirus remains one of the top choices when it comes to affordable and efficient antivirus solutions. And with a few improvements here and there, it would definitely fight for the crown.

BitDefender Internet Security 2012 is a security suite designed to provide your computer with the latest technologies against viruses and other virtual enemies.

The interface is very user-friendly and attractive. Here you can view the current protection status for antivirus, firewall, and antispam, while updates are automatically done on a regular basis (there's also a manual option to “update now”).

A parental profile (a highly intuitive function that also comes with predefined profiles) can be extensively configured to filter online websites for children (it seems that BitDefender really wanted to put an emphasis on this portion), while scanning options include quick, full system, custom, vulnerability scan, or rescue mode.

BitDefender Internet Security 2012 comes with a lot of features, like an adjustable scanning mode, instant messaging control, Facebook control, a BitDefender toolbar (monitors online traffic and other activity), and others.

Switching to auto pilot mode will disable BitDefender from displaying you any notifications.

Our tests ran perfectly, and BitDefender has once again managed to keep up with modern standards. Memory is moderately used during an active scan, and the application didn't present any bugs or crashes whatsoever.

Fortunately, you don't have to be a power user to learn how to use BitDefender's full features, as it remains a very easy-to-use program.

Its price makes BitDefender accessible, and all users should at least try it out as their number one antivirus technology system. We were very excited to see how BitDefender Internet Security 2012 would perform, and the application is definitely worth the trouble.

The installation process takes a while, so arm yourself with patience.

BitDefender's black interface is more pleasant than usual, as there are clearly established commands in white, while important events are highlighted in green.

Scanning is the kind of process that requires minimal interaction from the user. Choose the hard-disk you want to scan and let Avira do its magic. Scanning is not too fast though, and you may have to wait a little while to get rid of the worms. The speed of the scanning process obviously depends on the amount of data stored on your computer, so more files means more time.

Avira promises to protect your computer against viruses, worms and Trojans AntiDialer protection as well as against dialers and rootkits, spyware and adware.
